Netflix and the creators of the upcoming web film starring Manoj Bajpayee found themselves at the center of a legal controversy after objections were raised over the film’s original title, Ghooskhor Pandat. The issue escalated after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the registration of an FIR, citing concerns that the title allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Brahmin community.
Following the backlash, the film’s promotional material was quietly removed from all official social media platforms, signaling a pause in its marketing campaign.
Petition Filed in Delhi High Court
The controversy soon reached the Delhi High Court, where a petition was filed seeking a ban on the film’s release. The petitioner argued that the title and the proposed content of the movie were defamatory and could promote communal disharmony.
The matter was heard by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, before whom Netflix made an important submission regarding the future of the project.

Netflix Announces New Title
During the hearing, Netflix informed the court that the makers have decided to change the title of the film. According to the submission, the decision was taken after carefully considering the concerns raised by various parties.
The court recorded that the producer had made a “conscious decision” to rename the project, opting for an alternative title that would more accurately represent the film’s story and underlying intent, without causing offense.
Court Disposes of the Plea
In light of the title change, the Delhi High Court observed that the grievance raised in the petition no longer required further judicial examination. The bench stated that since corrective steps had already been taken by the filmmakers, there was nothing left to adjudicate, and the petition was accordingly disposed of.
What Lies Ahead
While Netflix has confirmed the title change, the new name of the Manoj Bajpayee-starrer has not yet been officially revealed. It remains to be seen when the streaming platform will resume promotions and announce a revised release plan.
The development highlights the growing sensitivity around film titles and content in the digital era, especially for streaming platforms with nationwide reach.
